Shannon Crout, D.O.'10, Returns to DMU Clinic to Elevate Holistic Patient Care

West Des Moines, IA (02/10/2025) — Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences' Shannon Crout, D.O.'10, has joined the physicians at the Des Moines University Clinic - Osteopathic Manual Medicine. Board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, Crout brings over a decade of clinical experience and a patient-centered approach that emphasizes whole-body wellness and trauma informed care.

A DMU 2010 alumna, Crout completed her residency in NMM/OMM at Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon, Michigan, in 2013. She has a passion for evaluating the human body as an interconnected system - focusing on understanding how physical, emotional and mental trauma manifest in the body and finding tailored solutions to optimize patient health.

"Trauma - whether from a car accident, childhood injury or even the birth process itself can have profound and long-lasting effects on the body," Crout says. "I see it as my job to connect the dots, assess the whole person and help patients move toward healing and balance."

Crout's approach spans all ages, from newborns to seniors, and she advocates for early interventions, particularly for infants and children. She highlights how OMM can address a range of concerns, including feeding challenges, sleep issues, developmental delays and more. "I believe every newborn deserves a healthy start, and OMM can make a world of a difference in ensuring that," Crout says.

Her professional memberships include the American Osteopathic Association, the Osteopathic Cranial Academy, the American Academy of Osteopathy and the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association. After running her own OMM business for over three years, Crout is excited to return to DMU to work alongside colleagues and students, embracing opportunities for collaboration and intellectual growth.

Patients can expect Crout's full dedication, informed by her guiding principle: treating others the way she would want to be treated. "When I'm with a patient, it's all about them," she says. "My goal is to listen deeply, understand their needs and find the best path to help them thrive."
