DMU Graduate Is Accepting New Patients

West Des Moines, IA (12/11/2023) — Kelly John, D.P.M., M.H.A., FACFAS, DABPM, a board-certified podiatric physician and surgeon, has joined the Des Moines University Clinic - Foot and Ankle as a clinician and assistant professor in DMU's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. The clinic is located at 3200 Grand Ave. in Des Moines.

John is accepting new patients. Her practice and research interests include surgical and non-surgical flatfoot treatment, bunion correction and surgical treatment of acute and chronic foot conditions. To make an appointment, call 515-271-1731.

"Having my own foot health issues with a congenital flexible flatfoot deformity, I found my way to the profession of podiatric medicine and surgery. I enjoy helping my patients learn about their foot condition and resolving their symptoms," she says. "I certainly can empathize with many of their concerns. I like to take an individualized approach to each patient in developing a treatment plan and engaging the patient in their own plan of care to achieve their desired outcome."

A fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, John is certified by the ABPM and by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery in foot and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery. She is a former DMU Alumni Board of Directors member and was named DMU's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Alumna of the Year in 2018.

John earned a bachelor's degree in natural sciences at the College of Saint Benedict and a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Master of Health Care Administration from DMU. She completed a podiatric surgical residency at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines and a podiatric medicine internship and podiatric surgical residency at Yale/VA Connecticut Healthcare in New Haven.

She previously was a podiatric surgeon at OrthoIllinois in Rockford, Illinois. She also was the primary developer and director of the OSF St. Anthony Medical Center podiatric surgical residency from 2012 to 2022.
